Ralph Mantia Sr

Artwork has always been a part of my life. I’m an artist with two art backgrounds, fine art, and commercial art. I chose commercial art to make a living and raise a family. For the past 47 years of doing commercial artwork, I was able to combine the two schools of thought in my designs and illustrations for customer and consumer impact. In those years working in the commercial art field, I still maintained my fine art expression of individual freedom in painting, sculpturing, entering, and competing in fine art shows.

Today in my senior years, my paintings are what keep me thinking, dreaming, visualizing, and growing. There has always been something new to express or communicate on the canvas. I have evolved to a more conservative style, while adding abstract design elements to stimulate, add uniqueness and mystery for the viewer. The viewer is my main focus in providing visual thought, being interesting, acceptance, and communicating.

My paintings are conservative and contemporary with figurative images combined with tropical scenery, the ocean, beach, my surroundings. Conservative, my work is representational in subject matter. Contemporary, they’re of my individual style and technique in painting. I maintain a sense of design, composition, and vivid colors in communicating to the viewer. This is a common thread that I have used successfully throughout my artistic life. The Subject matter is my voice and how I interact with these experiences.
